1947 International KB-6 Truck Build

Here you will see the restoration of a 1947 IH KB-6. We will build this one mostly stock.

The truck is in teardown stage. The cab and front sheet metal has been removed. The engine was fired to check it out.

Frame is completely bare and sent out to the sandblasters. Some of the more careful blasting like the rear end and hubs and such are being done in house.

All the blasting is complete. Frame repairs are ongoing.

We replaced all seals on the rearend and painted it.

The rims were blasted, primed, and painted using Valspar VP-50 epoxy primer and 333 Series basecoat in International Red. They were cleared with AC4400 urethane.

After alot of grinding, welding, and repairing the frame was ready for paint. It was placed on a turner and shot with Valspar VP-50 series epoxy primer and then topcoated with Valspar 840 series Single Stage Urethane.

The springs and shackles were reattached after blasting and painting.

The axles, brakes and hubs were installed. New kingpins and bushings were needed.

New Michelin 9-22.5 tires were installed on the rims. The rims were bolted on to finally achieve a rolling chassis.

The engine was rebuilt and reinstalled.

The cab has been just about completely stripped and derusted. Just a little more paint removal and it will be ready for bodywork.

The cab was covered inside, out and under with Valspar VP series epoxy primer.

Basic bodywork starts on the cab. No rust but lots of waviness.

Basic bodywork on cab is complete and polyester primer is applied.

Primer coats using Valspar 96N and 92B060 with blocking in between. We are using 180 grit, 220 grit, 320 grit and 600 grit for blocking and finishing.

Applied 999VP tinted in red as a sealer. Applied International Red basecoat in 999 Z-Base, two coat coverage even on areas I seam sealed after sealing. Appied three coats of AC4400 urethane clear.

Sprayed tinted bedliner inside the cab and under it.

Installed the transmission and clutch.

Mounted cab on frame.

Did bodywork on doors, painted and installed. Made gauges look pretty again.

Installed the propeller shafts along with expensive new u-joints.

Repaired the heater core and restored the heater unit.
